Overview
MOTUL GEAR COMPETITION 75W-140 is a racing lubricant for limited slip differentials, integrated in the gearbox or not, specially designed for racing vehicle gearboxes (speedway, rally, raid). Built with ESTER Core® Technology — a high-performance synthetic ester lubricant reinforced with EP (Extreme Pressure) additives — it is suited to hypoid differentials with a limited-slip system, gearboxes with integrated LSD, mechanical transmissions (synchronized or not), and transfer gearboxes, operating under shocks and heavy loads at low RPM or moderate loads at high RPM.
Compatibility
Compatibility information not available.
Key Features
- ESTER Core® Technology: polar ester molecules give maximal oil-film adherence to metallic surfaces, increasing transmission protection, reliability and driveability even in extreme conditions
- Included friction modifier avoids noisy or dragging limited-slip differential behaviour
- 0% shear loss — unshearable oil film in extreme conditions; stays in 140 grade after the KRL 20-hour shear test per SAE J306 (July 1998 update)
- Very high lubricating power, reduces friction and wear
- 140 grade at hot temperature for outstanding oil-film resistance and reduced transmission noise
- Fluid at low temperature for easier gear shifting when cold, less shift-lever effort
- Suitable for any seal and "yellow material" used in gearbox design
- Anti-corrosion, anti-foam
Applications
- Racing vehicle gearboxes: speedway, rally, raid
- Hypoid differentials with limited-slip system, gearboxes with integrated LSD
- Mechanical transmissions (synchronized or not), transfer gearboxes
- Motorsport use referenced by Motul: MUGEN Le Mans 24H (Hewland and X-Trac gearboxes), Japanese GT

FAQ
What API classification does Motul Gear Competition 75W-140 meet?
API GL-5, per the official Technical Data Sheet.
Is Motul Gear Competition 75W-140 an engine oil?
No — it is a gear oil, graded under SAE J306 (the gear-oil viscosity standard), not SAE J300 (the engine-oil standard).
Does Motul Gear Competition 75W-140 resist shear breakdown?
Yes — the official Technical Data Sheet states 0% shear loss, staying in the 140 grade after the KRL 20-hour shear test per SAE J306.
